The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Displeasure About Sizing Modifications
Shoppers are voicing their frustration following a change that caused products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has updated its sizing categories for female and kids' apparel but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Social Media Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification versus the original listing because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with similar services.
They have suggested members to check their listings and update the measurements by hand when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Size Classification Changes
Earlier, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Stories
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed on Vinted with size 14 labels were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she stated.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has become a favored option to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: previously, the service retracted a modification regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
